Exams on 12DEC and 19DEC2020 cancelled for MOST classes

December 11, 2020 by Steve

I feel it is VITAL this year that we have proper exams and proper marks to reflect the true ability and standing of our students. I do not want another year like last year. To this end I have mapped out a strategy for the Senior Department that includes FOUR sets of exams between now and the end of June 2021. I have communicated that strategy to the senior students in a video. However, above every strategy the maxim always remains : student and staff safety is paramount.

Due to the fact that 2 of the 3 classes that were due to take online/inschool exams over the next two Saturdays are self isolating due to COVID-19, I feel taking online only exams will be a waste of time at the moment. Therefore, I am postponing the exams until after the Christmas Break when we can go back to having the students physically present in school.

The ONLY classes for whom exams will continue as normal over the next two Saturdays is 11A and 12A.

Fill the Form : AGAIN! Important

December 10, 2020 by Steve

Here is a short video asking you to Fill The Form for physical presence in school again. Details are in the video and in the text below about why I want this to happen. Short summary : parental abuse of Admin Staff.

Here is the Google Form. It closes at midnight tomorrow, Friday 11DEC2020.

READ the LONG letter below, if you do not, you will be very sorry later. Everybody needs to fill the form. Every teacher and parent. Every boy and girl. Every mother and father. Student usernames ONLY. Once for each child you have.

Dear Parents

I am sorry to say that I will once again be requiring ALL parents that want their children to attend school physically to fill in a form that will be posted today and will be open for 24 hours until midnight tomorrow, Friday 11DE2020.

The form will govern attendance at school from Monday 14DEC2020 until Tuesday 22DEC2020 inclusive.

I was hoping that I would not have to do this, but the amount of abuse and vitriol and argument that we have on a daily basis with parents in the Junior and Senior Administration has become too much to bear.

The only REAL problem is with classes in the Infant Department but I am going to do this for the whole school.

The new lists will start on Monday 14DEC2020 and run until the Christmas Holiday, scheduled to start on Tuesday 22DEC2020 (Tuesday will be the last teaching day before the Christmas Break).

Even classes that are at the moment self-isolating will be required to register for physical presence in school because their self isolation MIGHT end before 22DEC2020.

I will now we VERY clear about how I am going to run the lists to avoid any argument about what is going to happen.

1 : There will be limited opportunity for a child to attend a class that is NOT their own. I thought that this was a brilliant idea, but apparently it has caused chaos in the Infant department as children have refused to enter different classes than their own and parents have forced the teachers to overfill their classes by presenting them with crying students.

2 : Small group classes : Junior 2S, 3G, 4C and 5Y. Classes 6D, 7D, 8D, 9D, 10D, 11D will automatically be registered as being InSchool. Parents decide whether they attend and the School Attendance Policy (https://wp.me/p77U8Y-1dL) does NOT apply to these classes

3 : A Level classes : Students of 11A and 12A will automatically be registered as being InSchool. Parents decide whether they attend and the School Attendance Policy (https://wp.me/p77U8Y-1dL) does NOT apply to these classes.

4 : Certain students will get priority, PROVIDED their parents register them on the form. There are (in order) :

  • Children of teachers
  • SSD students in all classes, PROVIDING their parents register them on the form. Note that many parents of SSD students in mainstream classes think that the shadow teacher or the school will automatically register their SSD child. This is NOT the case. They HAVE to register them on the form.
  • Families of three or more children.
It is important to note that ALL PREVIOUS agreements made with any administration have been THROWN away. This is a fresh start, with only the three conditions above taken into account. I must stress that this is because of the constant abuse that certain parents have poured out on our administrative staff, three of which are very close to a mental breakdown. This I will NOT tolerate.

5 : This means that every oversubscribed class will be on rotation. The rotations will probably be done so that most students attend a minimum of 3 out of 5 days.

6 : Note that there will still be the opportunity to SAY that you do not mind your child attending another section of the same class and we will TRY to accommodate them but we are making NO promises about this. You have to guarantee that YOUR child is OK with this and will not start crying the minute we attempt to put them in another class. This idea will only be used as a last resort and probably not at all.

VERY important ; All decisions about these matters are made by the Principal’s Office. All abuse should be directed at ME, not at my staff.
